Wishlist on Steam if you're interested!
There's a community Discord server as well.
Features
- over a dozen tracks with four medals each, including the fiendish Author Medal
- 5 different wheels to slap on your car
- fully manual or paddle shifting option
- constant updates with new tracks
Instructions
- To start the car, hold the clutch down and press START
- To launch the car, shift into first gear and release the clutch while holding down the gas
- The engine makes peak power around 6500 RPM
- Unless you're launching the car, dropping below 1500 RPM will stall it
- Shifting down into a gear that requires a higher RPM than the engine is capable of (money shift) will also stall the engine
- Launching at peak power is a perfect launch, and is acknowledged
- Rev matching your shifts is also acknowledged
Controls
- LT: Brake
- RT: Gas
- LB: Clutch
- RB + Right Stick: Move Camera
- Right Stick Up (with clutch pressed): gear up
- Right Stick Down (with clutch pressed): gear down
- Left Stick: Steer, flip vehicle if turned over
- A: handbrake (tap A to disable TCS and start a drift, hold A for handbrake)
- D-Pad Up: Switch between first/third person
- D-pad Down: Enter photo mode
- Y: Boost (when meter is in the blue)
- Back (the left button on the xbox controller): pause
- clutch in + pause: respawn (otherwise X on the controller)
Driving Tips
- When you enter a turn while braking, you need to rev match. Otherwise, you'll transfer weight hard onto the front wheels and possibly lock up the car's steering. This is also true in real life. But unlike real life, if you're fast enough to rev match while braking, you'll be rewarded with nitro points for a perfect downshift and get to maintain balance through the turn.
- Drifting also gives you boost.
You can gain boost from drifting, turning at the limit right before TCS kicks in, and rev-matching your shifts.
Other info
- engine sounds generated by EngineSim Community Edition
- car engine is a recreation of the March-Buick 85G IMSA GTP
- other sounds are Unity assets and CC-0 stuff from freesound.org
- exo-prototype car model is designed by me
- all the ui is PNGs generated via code by p5-js
- tracks are curved with the Spline Architect Unity package
- fonts are a mix of Bebas Neue (title) and IBM Plex Sans (body, including this text)
FAQs
- Why Money?
I want to buy EngineSim 3D when it comes out to synthesize even better engine sounds. Also possibly a terrain integration addon for the spline utility I'm using to dynamically generate the roads - Why no Web build? The game is demanding enough in the graphics and audio departments that it will run terribly in webgl. Also, some of the shader hacks I'm using for smoke and water won't work in browser.

Nintendo Switch 1 Pro Controller doesn't seem to be able to gas
I assume this is because it lacks analog triggers
Tried to emulate them via Steam Input, unsuccessful
yeah pro controllers are weird, i've had issues using them on PC in the past. i'll add a control rebinder at some point in the future, thanks for letting me know
I added a control rebinder in the main menu. Let me know if you're still having issues.
Thanks, I'll try it tonight
Ok so the rebinding interface works just fine, but as soon as I enter the training stage, all bindings are reset to defaults (or maybe they were never saved in the first place)
I tried setting up a keyboard control scheme, but only T ever responded.
Oh and also, it turned out I was dumb, completely forgot you had to clutch to start a manual XD
I was there, holding brake, switching to every gear, pressing gas to maybe act as a choke... and all I needed was another button combo.
I'm gonna sound like a game journalist but a reminder to hold clutch and engine start before the first ignition on the training stage would look pretty on the bottom left ;)
Whoops, try now, I forgot to make the control rebindings persist. And you should be able to see the "start engine" controls when you spawn in the tutorial stage though. Or did you just mean you'd want to see it always?
Edit: i made it always visible in the tutorial level, along with the respawn and gearshift buttons. They don't adapt to control changes yet, but they will eventually.
Amazing, any chance to have a bug report sticky post or something?
yeah, I can convert it to a board
